Santinelli Receives Special Olympics Award of Recognition
Hauppauge, NY- At a recent Nidek Worldwide Summit meeting in Milan, Mr. Gerard
Santinelli, President and CEO of Santinelli International, was recognized for
his support of the Special Olympics Lions Club International Opening Eyes. This
is a program that is dedicated to improving the vision care for persons with
disabilities throughout the world. Santinelli International has been very supportive
of this program in the United States, as the exclusive provider of lens edging
equipment and technicians at numerous events.
The “Opening Eyes” program
allows the athletes to receive prescription glasses
on site. Oftentimes these prescriptions are very
significant and life altering. With the support of
participating companies the program has been able
to examine 45,775 athletes, provide 18,357
glasses and train 3,487 volunteer doctors.
According
to Dr. Paul Berman, the Senior Global Clinical Advisor and Founder, “We
could definitely not do this without the support
of great human beings like Gerard Santinelli. With the support of Mr.
Santinelli
we are able to get the highest tech equipment in the
optical market place. This allows us to give our
athletes the best care in a timely fashion
with the highest quality of services.”
The plaque
that Mr. Santinelli received reads, "Special Friend
- Gerard Santinelli - Too often the handicapped are told ‘You can't
do it’. Special Olympics says, ‘You can do it. All you need
is a chance’. Thank you for giving that chance to Special Olympians
of the World by supplying edgers to the Opening Eyes Program”.
Dr. Berman
adds: “Mr.
Santinelli has also been instrumental in making the
appropriate arrangements to allow for potential global sponsorship
by Nidek, the worldwide leader of lens finishing and
ophthalmic equipment. “
