The reliable, space-saving unit introduces “tracer-free” technology, measuring demo lenses and patterns within the processing chamber. In addition to tracing the demo lens circumference, its front curve is measured to obtain 3-D tracing data and perform accurate 3-D edging. The option to add-on a front-loading frame tracer, which confidently handles high-wrap frames, is also available. Its low measurement pressure minimizes frame distortion, assuring superb accuracy. An intelligent blocker is integrated into the sleek design of the LE-700, delivering accurate and consistent blocking results.
“Listening to the industry, we saw a void for a quality, all-in-one finishing system that ECPs can rely on to take them to new levels of customer service and profitability”, said Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO. “Based on decades of innovative research and design, and backed by our team of highly experienced associates, the LE-700 confidently provides an entry level edging system that will fit in any size practice and within any budget.”

According to Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO, “Mark has continuously provided exceptional service to our valued client base for many years. With the winning combination of his vast optical knowledge and his passion for the industry, we all look forward to Mark’s future success with the company.”
With over 60 years of optical experience in lens finishing technology development, sales and marketing, Mr. Santinelli has achieved an impressive career. At a young age, he began working at his uncle’s company, A. Lemay & Co., where he eventually contributed to the development and introduction of the industry’s first diamond bevel edger in 1955, the Diamaline Automatic Bevel Edger. The machine was revolutionary as it introduced the first diamond bevel wheel, which rapidly replaced the ceramic bevel wheel. This facilitated the industry’s conversion from glass to plastic lenses which ushered in a new era in lens finishing and fashionable eyewear.
Through the ensuing years, Mr. Santinelli launched his own company, which subsequently introduced other ground-breaking innovations to the U.S. optical market. Santinelli International quickly grew to become the leader in lens finishing with equipment manufactured by NIDEK Japan and has repeatedly received industry awards for both their products and service.
The collection includes everyday staples, such as nose pads, temple tips and screws, but also features unique workshop aides which are sure to become relied upon solutions for dispensing. One of the featured lines is the exclusive “Visionary” Plier Collection developed by Breitfeld & Schliekert (B&S), a German company known internationally for highly functional and “refined craftsmanship” quality products.
“We are thrilled to provide our clients the ability to order a wide array of the optical tools and supplies they need to successfully run their practice, all from the company they’ve come to trust for their lens finishing equipment”, said Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO. “We know everyone is looking for quality, value and the best service for all their business transactions – we are confident we can provide all of that with our convenient, one-stop-shopping experience.”

The sales and service teams carved time out of their meetings for a Habit for Humanity “house build”, a team-building activity that the company has embraced in the past two years as one of its favorite ‘non-optical’ philanthropic efforts.
The week was topped off with a phenomenal anniversary celebration at The Pavilion at Sunken Meadow Beach. Stephen Santinelli (Technical Communications Manager) brought together a few associates, who are fellow EyeRock band members, for a surprise performance, including Gerard Santinelli (President & CEO) and Joe Santinelli (Founder & Chairman). Dancing under the stars on the boardwalk, company associates celebrated 40 years of success and innovation.
According to Gerard Santinelli, “It was a rare and wonderful occasion to have everyone together in our own backyard to share ideas, strategize and discover new ways to better serve our clients. We have a deep appreciation for our entire team and our valued clients who make it all possible.” Santinelli added “The beachside party provided the perfect opportunity for us all to socialize and revel in the brand and reputation we’ve built over the last 40 years.”
The company confirms that they will continue with their commitment to provide the Santinelli equipment required for on-site fabrication and have its associates participate at the service of Special Olympics athletes. “The Opening Eyes program is one of the most significant philanthropic initiatives and organizations that we support and it one of the first major programs we’ve consistently partnered with through our 40 years in business”, said Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO. “I get tremendous feedback from our folks whenever they participate. Our associates genuinely look forward to these inspiring events and their interaction with these amazing athletes.”
“Adding new philanthropic organizations to our company’s roster has been a focus of ours over the past few years. Habitat for Humanity has been a great addition – painting and swinging hammers together further bonds our team!” said Gerard Santinelli, company President & CEO. “We enjoyed the experience so much last year, that we’ve now made it an annual event. It is incredibly rewarding for us to work side-by-side, and with the future homeowner, to see the wonderful results.”
The LT-1200’s ability to reproduce optimal digitized frame data, regardless of frame curve, is achieved with highly sophisticated software that algorithmically calculates the effect that the curve imparts on the frame size. Moreover, the potential for distortion is eliminated on even the thinnest, most flexible of frames as the tracer utilizes 50% less stylus pressure than previous models. The stylus approach is 90 degrees perpendicular to the frame, as well as horizontally parallel, at any height of the curve. This method disperses stylus pressure over a larger area of the frame than just at the point of contact.
Constructed of durable Tungsten-carbide material, the unit’s newly designed stylus tip prolongs the life of the stylus. Additionally, this new design reduces abrasion and friction, consistently producing a smoother, more accurate digitized trace of any frame. The three-axis assemblies, Horizontal, Vertical and Rotational, which control and guide the stylus operation, are 100% gear-driven and provide an effective, free floating center axis of dimension capture. Therefore, the unit’s stylus turret is void of obsolete belts, pulleys or bearings, protecting its functionality from harmful debris. Also, upon closing, the upper and lower frame sliders interlock in a “tongue-and-groove” design, thereby protecting the mechanical core of the tracer. An integrated door is fitted on the unit as secondary protective measure. As a result, the LT-1200’s technology will provide years of trouble-free operation and optimum performance.
The unit’s 10.4” color, LCD touchscreen gives the operator a quick view of traced data confirmation, as well as other pertinent information for lens processing, such as “A”, “B”, “DBL”, “ED”, and “C-Size”. The ergonomically-designed, tiltable touchscreen is highly intuitive for ease-of-operation, featuring an array of functions that include Shape Editing Mode for creating customized rimless and semi-rimless eyewear. The on-screen display allows tracing data editing “by quadrant”. Frame angle data entry and/or adjustment (“Z-Tilt” angle) are also possible when necessary, if tracing demo lenses or patterns of high curve frames.
Using proprietary 3-D patented technology, the LT-1200 captures tracing data by digitizing 1,000 reference points per eye for maximum precision, consistently achieving a 99.9% level of accuracy and greater one-cut edging results. The unit is a simple “plug and play” and is VCA compliant.
According to Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO, “We know that so many of our clients are incredibly creative and love having the opportunity to be ‘designers’ with their ME edgers. Now they can share their creations with the industry by being a part of our celebratory contest!”
In addition to having bragging rights and their eyewear on display, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive $500, $250 and $100, respectively, toward any purchase within Santinelli International’s ever-expanding product line. To enter the contest, visit: www.santinelli.com/ThinkOutsidetheBoxEdge.

The Santinelli Value-Edge™ Blocking Pads are made of a specially formulated foam and adhesive combination, designed to improve the edging performance of today’s coated and uncoated lenses. The foam material resists high rotational forces and prevents the pad from “wrinkling”. The adhesive is formulated to bond to all hard coated, standard AR coated and many hydrophobic AR coated lenses, making it an excellent “all-around” pad. These blocking pads are available in several different sizes and shapes.
The Grip-Tight ™ Intermediate Film is a product which was developed as an added security measure against slippage, giving the lens clamp a more secure “grip”. The intermediate film comes in both Standard and High Curve versions. The Grip-Tight ™ High Curve film is thinner and more flexible, and adheres to high curve lenses with better “wet-out” results and without wrinkles. Grip-Tight ™ will work well with any block size and shape.
According to Franco Aluigi, Product Manager, “We are proud to introduce innovative solutions which address the challenges of edging today’s lens coatings. The Value- Edge™ Blocking Pads and The Grip-Tight ™ Intermediate Film will be great cost-efficient additions to any lab, maintaining the quality of lens finishing results.”
While optical pioneer Joseph Santinelli founded the company in 1973, his son, Gerard Santinelli, has presided as President & CEO since 1998. Throughout the decades, success and growth have resulted in relocating from the original “closet-sized” home office, to a larger 8-room office space, and then ultimately into the current, more spacious 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Hauppauge, Long Island.
The company’s heritage began in 1956 with Joseph Santinelli’s contributions to the advent of the first diamond bevel edger, the Diamaline Automatic Bevel Edger, introduced by A. Lemay & Co. What followed was a series of advanced technologies introduced by Santinelli International, such as the first “on-size pattern” edging concept and the first automatic, polishing edger. Partnering with NIDEK in 1991, the company then introduced the renowned Japanese manufacturer’s first lens edger, “3-D Fit” tracer and auto-grooving & safety beveling capabilities in the U.S.
With the flagship ME Lens Edger Series at the apex and the introduction of integrated 3-D drilling boasting exceptional quality and functionality, Santinelli’s line-up serves the needs of all user levels, from novice to expert. Additionally, the company’s industrial lab products have evolved to include the industry’s most advanced robotic handling and dry edging technology.
According to Gerard Santinelli, “Being family-owned enables us to be more responsive to our clients and rapidly adapt according to the market’s needs. After 40 years, we’re still just as passionate about the industry and just as devoted to the success of our clients.” Santinelli added “We’ve built a strong reputation as a provider of high-quality finishing technology and we’re committed to preserving this legacy moving forward by focusing efforts on our clients’ needs and on what we do best.”
The company plans to celebrate the 40-year anniversary at varying times throughout the year, with special associate and client events.
In addition, the tracer utilizes 50% less stylus pressure to the frame than previous models and thereby eliminates the potential for distortion on even the thinnest, most flexible of frames. This is achieved by altering the angle approach of the stylus-to-frame whereby the pressure is dispersed over a larger area of the frame and at various angles, rather than merely the standard 90 degree angle.
The unit’s newly designed stylus tip is constructed of durable Tungsten-carbide material, prolonging the lifetime of the stylus. Furthermore, the stylus tip is designed to reduce abrasion and friction allowing for a smoother, more accurate digitized trace of any frame time after time.
The three-axis assemblies, Horizontal, Vertical and Rotational, which control and guide the stylus operation, are 100% gear-driven. Therefore, the unit’s stylus turret is void of obsolete belts, pulleys or bearings, protecting its functionality from harmful debris. In addition, upon closing, the upper and lower frame sliders interlock in a “tongue-and-groove” design, thereby protecting the mechanical core of the tracer. As a result, the LT-980’s technology will provide years of trouble-free operation and optimum performance.
Upon its debut at the 2010 SILMO trade show in Paris, the Me 1200 was honored with the SILMO d’Or Award recognizing innovation, technology and creativity. The Me 900 offers the same superior quality and much of the same technology as its “big brother”, yet at a more economical cost-of-ownership level.
The new unit features the identical, industry-leading 3-D Drilling, 3-D Grooving and Advanced Shape Editor functions as its predecessor. The high precision Safety Beveling feature is also included. In addition, the Me 900 features a Radius Measurement Unit (RMU) which measures the radius of the lens for proper cut-out and orients the lens for faster processing speed. The unit’s BMW-style “Jog-Dial” operations provide ease-of-use and precision operation, as does the new graphic design color display.
The addition of the new Me 900 rounds-out and expands the company’s drilling line. Now Santinelli International effectively offers three different drilling edger models with various features and at varying price levels, all available with a multitude of blockers. The end result is that ECPs now have several options to customize a system which will meet their own lab needs and budget.
Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO of Santinelli International said “For those practices and wholesale labs that have heard about how phenomenal the Me 1200 is, we are pleased to offer this modified version of that revolutionary model. Now, our advanced drilling and grooving features are more accessible than ever with the introduction of the Me 900.”
As with all other Santinelli drilling models, the Me 900 is available with the optional Click Mode software for processing Chemistrie™ Magnetic Layered Lens System, providing an additional profit-generating function. A simpler, modified version of the Me 1200’s technology makes the Me 900 a highly valuable addition to finishing labs.
