Santinelli Introduces LE-1200

February 22, 2016, Hauppauge, NY – Equipped with an innovative multi-frame tracer, Santinelli International’s acclaimed LE series is now reborn with avant-garde technology and an all-new look encapsulated in the LE-1200 model. The new lens edger delivers a shorter cycle time for higher productivity and a high luster finish, thanks to design and engineering improvements.

The unit’s on-board tracer offers heightened levels of shape detection and size measurement accuracy for a wide array of frames, including sport styles. Lens and pattern tracing have never been easier, with the magnetic-mounted pattern setting assembly and simple, one-touch operation.

The LE-1200’s redesigned software adds a tailored “mini bevel” function at the push of a button, providing a custom fit lens for thin, metal eyewire frames, such as Ray Ban™ aviator style. As a result, the cosmetic appearance of the finished eyewear is greatly enhanced. Additionally, the new software senses the lens blank diameter. Together with lens measurement data and lens material, it automatically selects the most-efficient lens processing method and cycle time. Therefore, even today’s super hydrophobic coated lenses can be edged without axis shift.

The LE-1200 produces ready-to-insert, beautifully finished lenses every time with its unique groove and safety bevel “multi-disk arm”. Furthermore, customized shapes for unique eyewear designs can be created effortlessly with the unit's Shape Editor function.

Gerard Santinelli, President and CEO of Santinelli International, comments, “The LE series, with its heritage as the most popular lens edger in the world, is sure to continue its legacy with the introduction of the LE-1200. Added features and benefits, like the tailored mini-bevel, will provide ECPs with the ability to dispense fine eyewear to their patients, while achieving increased profits.”

Santinelli Anniversary Article EB

Lens finishing equipment distributor Santinelli International (santinelli.com) is celebrating its 25th year in partnership with Japanese manufacturer Nidek Co., Ltd. Here, Gerard Santinelli, president & CEO of Santinelli International, talks about their history—and this milestone.

When we first met Nidek, they were already established as a worldwide ophthalmic equipment company, with a solid reputation as a leader and innovator. In 1990, Nidek entered the lens edger business by developing a patternless edger.

Unlike other edger companies at that time that had generations of experience, Nidek started from ground zero and went right into developing a patternless edger. Their first edger, the LE-8000, was small and compact, extremely easy to use, and made the process of fabricating quality eyewear unlike any other edger in the marketplace. Among its unique features was the unit’s ability to literally "talk" the operator through the steps of edging. It meant that virtually anyone could now learn how to make glasses.

This product design trend of unique features, unprecedented accuracy and reliability, and user-friendly operation has continued with an impressive barrage of new and exciting products coming out of Japan into the U.S. optical marketplace.

I am most proud of how our partnership has evolved into a two-way communication of new product development, marketing, and innovation perspective. Together, we have built a respectful relationship that always challenges the status quo, keeping the end users (i.e., our customers) front and center on the evolutionary benefits we develop. We have also worked very closely with both frame designers and lens companies to accommodate processing various frame and lens styles, creativity, materials, coatings, and designs. The Nidek and Santinelli International teams feed off of each other, and the marketplace, making for the perfect “marriage,” which benefits not only our customers, but also the various "cousins" in the industry.

We are committed and driven to helping our customers become better retail competitors. The key is in-office finishing that provides faster service, improves quality and control, and increases profits from both private pay and managed vision care eyewear. Basically, in-office finishing sharpens a practice’s competitive edge.

They may be surprised to learn that my father, Joseph Santinelli, founded this company 43 years ago in the garage of our house, and he is still as passionate and full of ideas as he was back then. It might also seem surprising that I started at the company literally sweeping the floors and organizing the stockroom.

Fast-forward to where we are today, and we can brag a little. ECPs might be surprised to learn that, year after year, we are the recipient of several industry awards that poll ECPs on their favorite brands and companies. We couldn’t be more appreciative to our customers for making these honors possible.

Santinelli Launches New Products

July 29, 2015, Hauppauge, NY – Santinelli International introduces new technology with the arrival of the Lex-1200 Lens Edger and Ice-1200 Blocker, developed from years of successfully proven technology, as witnessed in innumerable labs across the country. Furthermore, all-new functions will enable ECPS to process the latest in lens and frame designs.

At the heart of the two units is an advanced high-curve tracer, featuring a unique mechanical design which includes a variable fulcrum stylus, keeping its axis-angle perpendicular to any frame curve. The new tracer reduces stylus-pressure by fifty percent, thereby eliminating the potential for distortion on even the thinnest, most flexible of frames.

The Lex-1200 edger’s “2.0 software” boasts a faster processing speed than the previous version and offers multiple custom bevel pre-sets. New to this model series is a controlled high-curve bevel function which produces an asymmetrical lens bevel profile, permitting the lens to be perfectly fitted into such shaped sport frames. Additional functions include highly-specialized semi-step bevel which allow insertion of lenses into “non-Rx-able” eyewear.

Operators will appreciate the all-new custom auto mode, an extremely user-friendly, one-step operation delivering a tailored mini-bevel which is ideal for thin metal eyewire with a perfectly matched frame-based profile (i.e.: Ray BanTM frames). Lastly, for those seeking to drill in-house, the edger interfaces seamlessly with the optional LexDrill “side car” unit, which can process complex drilling jobs automatically.

The Ice-1200 blocker incorporates a multi-colored touchscreen with new, intuitive graphics for a seamless operation. The unit also features an advantageous Auto Lens Meter (ALM) function with an easy-to-identify cross-hair target for spot-on accuracy. Santinelli’s Integrated Shape Imager (ISI) facilitates drill data capture and has been revised to include partial step lens measurements of “suspension-lens” style sport frames.

The newly redesigned lens stage is highly adjustable accommodating any lens blank size, shape or type, all while keeping the front of the lens parallel to the blocking arm. Furthermore, the integrated lens clamp gently stabilizes the lens prior to blocking, eliminating any potential lens-shift.

The blocker’s software has the ability to read QR codes which contain EMR data from linked diagnostic equipment, eliminating the need for redundant job data entry and thereby streamlining the entire blocking operation.

Gerard Santinelli, President & CEO, commented, “We believe we are better able to help our customers succeed by continuously introducing faster, more intuitive technology, which can handle today’s lens and frame challenges with greater accuracy. Both the Lex 1200 and Ice 1200 do just that, taking lens processing technology to a higher level.”

For more information, contact Santinelli International at 800.644.3343 (option 5).

Santinelli Offers Titanium Pad Arm Kit" Industrial Edging Platform

February 3, 2014, Hauppauge, NY – Complementing its new collection of optical tools, supplies and working aides, Santinelli International now offers a simple and effective way to add nose bridge support to plastic frames with its Titanium Pad Arm Kit. The addition of nose pad arms is a perfect solution for patients with low nose profiles who prefer wearing plastic frames. The pad arms raise the frame, allow for greater adjustment of pantoscopic tilt and, most importantly, prevent the frame from continuously sliding.

After removing the existing integral nose pads on either a zyl or optyl frame, the pad arms can be mounted by simply drilling a tiny hole into the frame’s bridge with the provided pin vice and drill bit. The titanium arms are inserted into the frame and securely held in place by the specially designed “barbed-end” posts of the arms. The process is simple and clean without the need for any glue or chemical adhesive.

The kit includes a pin vise, drill bit, punch tool, 15 pairs of PVC nose pads and titanium arms in assorted colors, all stored in a handy organizer to keep tools and parts secure. The Santinelli Value-Edge™ Blocking Pads are made of a specially formulated foam and adhesive combination, designed to improve the edging performance of today’s coated and uncoated lenses. Grip-Tight ™ will work well with any block size and shape.

Santinelli International Celebrates 40 Years of Success

January 16, 2013, HAUPPAUGE, NY – Santinelli International, the lens finishing equipment company, will commemorate its long, rich history with the celebration of its 40th anniversary this year. As one of the few remaining independent, family-owned and managed equipment companies, Santinelli International celebrates the reputation it has built for top-performance products and world-class service. The company has consistently been recognized as the leader in lens finishing by industry associations and has perennially received awards for both their products and service.

While optical pioneer Joseph Santinelli founded the company in 1973, his son, Gerard Santinelli, has presided as President & CEO since 1998. Throughout the decades, success and growth have resulted in relocating from the original “closet-sized” home office, to a larger 8-room office space, and then ultimately into the current, more spacious 15,000 sq. ft. facility in Hauppauge, Long Island. The company’s heritage began in 1956 with Joseph Santinelli’s contributions to the advent of the first diamond bevel edger, the Diamaline Automatic Bevel Edger, introduced by A. Lemay & Co. What followed was a series of advanced technologies introduced by Santinelli International, such as the first “on-size pattern” edging concept and the first automatic, polishing edger.

Partnering with NIDEK in 1991, the company then introduced the renowned Japanese manufacturer’s first lens edger, “3-D Fit” tracer and auto-grooving & safety beveling capabilities in the U.S. With the flagship ME Lens Edger Series at the apex and the introduction of integrated 3-D drilling boasting exceptional quality and functionality, Santinelli’s line-up serves the needs of all user levels, from novice to expert. Additionally, the company’s industrial lab products have evolved to include the industry’s most advanced robotic handling and dry edging technology.

According to Gerard Santinelli, “Being family-owned enables us to be more responsive to our clients and rapidly adapt according to the market’s needs. After 40 years, we’re still just as passionate about the industry and just as devoted to the success of our clients.” Santinelli added “We’ve built a strong reputation as a provider of high-quality finishing technology and we’re committed to preserving this legacy moving forward by focusing efforts on our clients’ needs and on what we do best.” The company plans to celebrate the 40-year anniversary at varying times throughout the year, with special associate and client events.

Santinelli's New LT-1200 Xtreme-D High Curve Tracer

May 22, 2013 – HAUPPAUGE, NY – Santinelli International introduces a revolutionary, new generation display screen tracer, the LT-1200 Xtreme-D, featuring high curve frame trace capability with fully automatic operation. The unit’s unique mechanical design includes a variable fulcrum stylus which keeps the axis angle perpendicular to the frame at any curve. The LT-1200’s ability to reproduce optimal digitized frame data, regardless of frame curve, is achieved with highly sophisticated software that algorithmically calculates the effect that the curve imparts on the frame size. Moreover, the potential for distortion is eliminated on even the thinnest, most flexible of frames as the tracer utilizes 50% less stylus pressure than previous models.

The stylus approach is 90 degrees perpendicular to the frame, as well as horizontally parallel, at any height of the curve. This method disperses stylus pressure over a larger area of the frame than just at the point of contact. Constructed of durable Tungsten-carbide material, the unit’s newly designed stylus tip prolongs the life of the stylus. Additionally, this new design reduces abrasion and friction, consistently producing a smoother, more accurate digitized trace of any frame.

The three-axis assemblies, Horizontal, Vertical and Rotational, which control and guide the stylus operation, are 100% gear-driven and provide an effective, free floating center axis of dimension capture. Therefore, the unit’s stylus turret is void of obsolete belts, pulleys or bearings, protecting its functionality from harmful debris. Also, upon closing, the upper and lower frame sliders interlock in a “tongue-and-groove” design, thereby protecting the mechanical core of the tracer. An integrated door is fitted on the unit as secondary protective measure. As a result, the LT-1200’s technology will provide years of trouble-free operation and optimum performance. The unit’s 10.4” color, LCD touchscreen gives the operator a quick view of traced data confirmation, as well as other pertinent information for lens processing, such as “A”, “B”, “DBL”, “ED”, and “C-Size”.The ergonomically-designed, tiltable touchscreen is highly intuitive for ease-of-operation, featuring an array of functions that include Shape Editing Mode for creating customized rimless and semi-rimless eyewear. The on-screen display allows tracing data editing “by quadrant”. Frame angle data entry and/or adjustment (“Z-Tilt” angle) are also possible when necessary, if tracing demo lenses or patterns of high curve frames.

Using proprietary 3-D patented technology, the LT-1200 captures tracing data by digitizing 1,000 reference points per eye for maximum precision, consistently achieving a 99.9% level of accuracy and greater one-cut edging results. The unit is a simple “plug and play” and is VCA compliant.

Additionally, the renowned high-base curve edging and custom beveling capabilities of the company’s previous industrial model (the SE-9090 Express+) are incorporated into the AES-2200.

The unit’s robust, dual-spindle wheel configuration is another highly-valued, continued feature. The robotic system utilizes a unique hybrid design combination of conveyer belt and a dynamic tray-lifting mechanism that eliminates job “bottle necking” and allows four jobs to be in a processing stage continually. Moreover, the intelligent synchronization of the system is capable of bypassing any problematic job tray, while keeping the other edger units operating at full efficiency. New, lightweight “dual robotic arms” reduce lens transport time from tray to chuck by over fifty percent.

According to Gerard Santinelli, company President & CEO, “This incredibly robust and innovative system provides the best jobs-per-square-foot ratio ever introduced. We’re very excited to unveil this innovative system at Vision Expo East and equally excited about its ability to assist high-volume labs throughout the country.”
